Is it possible for us all to agree that 2017 could be the year of empathy? I wonder…. the media says that we’re a divided country, our friends on Facebook have difficulty holding fruitful and enlightening discussions about politics without calling each other names, the word “selfie” is used so much it makes me want to be sick, and many are so concerned about their own personal brand to differentiate themselves from the rest that it feels like we’ve temporarily forgotten to listen and empathize with those we engage on a regular basis.
Lately, I’ve been feeling that we’re at a crossroads where information (real and fake) is coming at us so fast, new technologies are developing so rapidly and the globalization process has become so complex that many are feeling left behind and trying to understand their value and their place in the world. They want their voices heard. But, who is going to listen if there is no empathy?
In this week’s weVENTURE FLORIDA TODAY EDGE column, I discuss the impact empathy has on success, growth and leadership. Click here to read more about the benefits of showing empathy and how it could greatly impact your 2017!
