Many of us find negotiations intimidating and awkward, but it doesn’t have to be that way. When you negotiate, it is important to know your audience. You know what your end goal is, but do you know theirs?
Research and transparency are two key components to being a good negotiator. Research prepares you and gives you a bit of a heads-up before walking into any meeting. Transparency is important because you don’t want your intentions to be confused and then have issues later. It’s always more beneficial for all parties to be up front. And remember, don’t take it personally, no matter what the outcome.
