MELBOURNE, FLA. (March 30, 2017) – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) South Florida District Office announced weVENTURE at Florida Institute of Technology’s College of Business as the 2017 South Florida District, State of Florida and Region IV Women’s Business Center of Excellence award winner under the agency’s National Small Business Week Awards Program.
Data released by the SBA shows there are 9.9 million women-owned businesses in the U.S. that contribute $1.4 trillion a year to the economy. In a supportive effort, weVENTURE offers targeted, highly-effective programs to start-ups, emerging businesses, and second-stage growth-oriented companies that are designed to establish a strong foundation for business growth and success.
“We are honored to receive the award for SBA Southeast Region Women’s Business Center of Excellence for the third year in a row,” said weVENTURE Executive Director Erica Lemp. “We owe this award to our dedicated staff, clients, mentors and all those who have supported us as a leading resource for igniting the economic power of women through entrepreneurship.”

According to the National Women’s Business Council, women-owned small businesses have grown twice the rate of all U.S. privately-held firms between 1997 and 2006.

Each year since 1963, the president has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of National Small Business Week. National Small Business Week is set as the first week in May, and this year the dates are April 30 – May 6 with national events planned in Washington, D.C., New York City, Indianapolis, Dallas and Fresno, Calif.
